Gail Whang, a native of the Bay Area, is a retired Oakland educator who has traveled extensively in Europe and Asia. In this series, she has captured images from a trip to Thailand. Gail took an interest in photography over 40 years ago while backpacking and hiking. She loves capturing the beauty that nature offers. Flowers and scenery are some of her favorite subjects. Her photographs of the people, food, and scenery, reflect the culture of the countries she has visited. She was particularly moved by the many Buddhas she encountered in Thailand.
For over 30 years, I worked as an urban educator teaching in Oakland and San Francisco. As a way of finding balance in my life, I hiked in the East Bay Hills and traveled throughout the world. With my camera, I was able to capture glimpses of life in other cultures. Coming home and enlarging my photos helped me reminisce and relax. I practice Dayan Qigong every morning and together with my husband, Norm, we hike the East Bay Hills with our puppy, Curry.
