Fitness Classes
Fitness Classes Included in the Fitness Classes area is the various classes we offer at the Claremont. These classes have been divided into YOGA, PILATES, CARDIO, CYCLING and OTHER. However, while classes may concentrate on a specific area, all classes attempt to integrate all aspects of Restorative Fitness©. Our class schedule changes throughout the year. Yoga
Intro to Yoga
A 4-Week class designed for absolute beginners or those needing a refresher course. Sessions start the first Wednesday of every month. Please pre-register. Session A is for Absolute Beginners, Session B is for Beginners and those needing a refresher. Call 549-8517.

Active Yoga
A vigorous class incorporating Ashtanga, Iyengar and flow. Based on the classic “sun salutation” series of yoga postures. Not appropriate for individuals with back problems, or a low level of fitness.

Power Yoga
Ashtanga-style yoga is known for its use of flow rather than repose. A more vigorous and challenging style for those interested in a more active, “work-out” style yoga class. Advanced, beginner or intermediate levels are welcomed.

Pranayama
A class in yogic breathing. Beginners please arrive early to check-in with teacher.

Restorative Yoga
A class which facilitates deep relaxation and healing using bolsters and other props.

Yoga Asana
A challenging class focusing on strength, balance, endurance, flexibility, and relaxation. Geared to intermediate and advanced levels.

Yoga Basics
An easy-to-moderate class focusing on all aspects of Yoga. It is geared toward advanced beginners and those wanting to stay more quiet.

Yoga/Hike
  • Climb the fire trail behind the resort for a series of standing poses al fresco. Meet at the Club entrance gate.
Yoga Stretch
A class combining long stretches with some Yoga. A relaxing way to end the week.


Fitness Schedule

Pilates
Core Flow
A blend of Ballet, Pilates and Yoga techniques, this class focuses on core conditioning concepts as they are applied to moving through space in class as well as in our daily lives.

Pilates-based Mat class
This core conditioning class is based on the groundbreaking work by Joseph Pilates. It is designed to strengthen deep muscles, combining postural awareness, abdominal and back work and flexibility training.

Pilates on the Ball
Pilates exercises using the core-strengthening possibilities of the stability ball. Class size limited to number of balls available.

Pilates Mat + Bodyrolling
This class will give you an opportunity to work on your core strength through Pilates exercises, and then move into deep release through the cutting-edge work known as Bodyrolling.

Pilates Plus
  • Pilates floor exercises plus work on the ball, and using other props, including light hand weights to help build a super-strong core.

Cardio
The Brick (30spin/20swim)
  • Spin hard for 30 minutes, then jump in the pool for a 20-minute lap swim. (Non-swimmers are welcome to take an aqua run).
Video Cycle
  • Get your spin workout while watching your favorite music videos. Work at your own pace. Guaranteed to raise your heart rate and make you smile! Reservations accepted after 8am for the next day’s classes. You must arrive early and bring a water bottle. Call 549-8517.
30-20-10 (Cycle/Pilates/Yoga)
Thirty minutes of spinning, 20 minutes of Pilates exercises and 10 minutes of yoga stretches. Sign-up for a bike by calling 510-549-8517.

Alive! (Strength, Balance & Stretch)
A great combination of muscular training and release. Features some cardio-vascular training. All ages welcome.

Aqua Aerobics
This vigorous and refreshing class combines movements in deep and shallow water for strength, toning and cardiovascular training, using the natural buoyancy and resistance of water.

Beyond Center
  • A movement class designed for real people. Warm-up, stretching, and short phrases to music. No experience necessary.
Balance & Strength
  • A muscle-conditioning class that employs stability balls and other devices to increase strength and balance.
Barre Workout
  • A strength workout using ballet barre, light weights and floor exercises.
Bodyrolling & Stretch
  • A deeply relaxing stretch class that uses small inflated balls to target points of pressure and release.
Bosu Workout & Bosu Strength
  • The Bosu ball is a great tool for balance, core strength, even cardio conditioning. Prepare for challenge!
Cardio Blast & Body Sculpt
  • A challenging but easy-to-follow mix of straight-ahead moves to get your heart pumping.
Cardio + Strength
30 minutes of high-energy, low impact aerobic exercise followed by strength and balance work w/abs & stretching.

FitMommas
Lose Weight, Get in shape, Bring your baby! A fun strength conditioning and aerobics class for Moms and their pre-toddler kids. Classes use strollers and go outdoors weather permitting

Heart Work
A graceful blend of low impact aerobics, strength training and stretch. For all levels of fitness.

In-Cycling
A fun and challenging workout on specially designed stationary bikes. Work at your own pace. Guaranteed to raise your heart rate and make you smile! Reservations are required and accepted after 8am for the next day's classes. You must arrive early and bring a water bottle. Call 510-549-8517.

Latin Cardio
  • This 4-week class series will give you a fun workout while shaking your hips and burning unwanted calories to the rhythms of Latin music. All levels welcome.
Muscle, Fluidity and Stillness
A dynamic strength and flexibility workout using a variety of techniques and influences.

Samba, Salsa, & Rumba
  • Caribbean Workout. Learn dance steps and get a workout!
Strength, Balance & Stretch
A great combination of muscular training and release.

Strength & Conditioning
A non-traditional weight-training workout for all levels.

Total Body Challenge
  • A work out in a fun-filled class that increases your heart rate, burns body fat, and sculpts lean muscles all in one! Using a wide variety of tools, including Bosu, step, free weights, and resistance bands. All levels are welcome.
Up/Down Hike
A no-fooling-around vertical climb up Claremont Canyon trail and a descent down the same trail. The hike accommodates different fitness levels
because you don’t have to make it all the way to the top. The group will retrace steps and pick-up everyone on the way back. Hiking Boots recommended. Trail can be slippery and muddy so dress accordingly. Meet at Club Gates.

World Rhythms
A joyful workout featuring music and movement taken from all over the world. Open to all levels.


Other
ABA: Awakening Body Awareness
  • This class uses gentle isometric exercises to stimulate the muscles to increase range of motion, create more freedom in motion, and increase your ability to participate more fully in the activities of life. The class will conclude with guided meditation.
A.I. (Active Isolated) Stretch
Developed by kinesiologist Aaron Mattes, this evolutionary flexibility work is based on sound neurologic principles. Uses opposing muscle groups to stretch and increase range of motion while decreasing the likelihood of soreness and injury.

Balance & Strength
A muscle-conditioning class that employs stability balls and other devices to increase strength and balance.

Bodyrolling & Stretch
A deeply relaxing stretch class that uses small inflated balls to target points of pressure and release.

Contemplative Aikido
  • Experience thuis meditative approach to Aikido focusing on cooperation instead of combat. Open to all levels.

A blend of Ballet, Pilates and Yoga techniques, this class focuses on core conditioning concepts as they are applied to moving through space in class as well as in our daily lives.

Feldenkrais
Awareness through Movement© will improve internal coordination to create greater ease in movement. The results can include increased flexibility, injury prevention, and sense of well-being.

Groundwork
A gentle warm-up and stretch on the floor.

Hula
A fun class for all ages, kids invited! Learn the techniques of hula and get a good hip and ab workout while you’re at it. Lots of fun!

Slow Motion
An easy-to-follow warm-up based on modern dance movements, with stretching and floor barre.

Tai Chi
This gentle martial art features a series of movements that are combined to create a flow of meditative motion. The practice is meditative and teaches balance and grace. Great for seniors.


Cycling
Cycle/Sculpt
A cycling class with upper-body muscular conditioning using light hand weights. Abdominal work and stretching, too. Please call 510.549.8517 after 8:00am one day prior to the class.
